Women in the Mirror: Self-Portraits by Female Painters

Women in the Mirror: Self-Portraits by Female Painters
Makiko Horio
Bunkashuppan-kyoku, 2002

This book features twelve female painters from the 19th century to the present day. The self-portraits of these women, who overcame many difficulties to become painters, which hindered the flowering of women's talents, are particularly sharpened mirrors, reflecting our present.

An interesting read about the works and lives of twelve representative Western and Eastern female painters of the modern era. The vivid trajectories painted by Setsuko Migishi, Yuki Ogura, Marie Laurencin, and others are rich in suggestions for modern people. Representative works are also a must-see.
